So who the heck are we and is a comic book publisher publishing books about tiki drinks? That's the most common question we get asked.
SLG Publishing (short for Slave Labor Graphics) is indeed primarily a publisher of comics and graphic novels. Founded in 1986 we are best known as the publisher of Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez. In addition to publishing our company founded one of the first conventions devoted to small and independent publishing, the Alternative Press Expo (APE) which is now in its 20th year. Our other ventures include an annual charityzombie walk (Zombie-O-Rama) and our very own music venue (The Art Boutiki in San Jose, CA). So we are a multifaceted and diverse company.
We are also lovers of rum, tiki, Polynesian pop-culture and all the things that go along with that. Our association with Beach Bum Berry began a number of years ago after we acquired a copy of his self-published Grog Log. Our then editor-in-chief Craig Pape offered the Bum an opportunity to do an offset print run of the book and make it available for sale
A dozen years and five books later we are proud to still be publishing our line of Beach Bum Berry books and this year we will be expanding the Club Tiki Press line to include a line of tiki themed T-Shirts (see the link to Tiki Tees above) as well as some other cocktail and pop-culture books.
